New Oak
About the Timber
Our doors are constructed from Character grade Oak. This has been carefully seasoned, kiln dried and sawn. |
Newly sawn oak is a light brown colour which will turn a greyish colour with the effect of weathering. If you are looking for a darker brown oak please refer to our ageing process. |
About the Finish
Supplied sanded then you can apply your choice of oil to protect the timber and enhance the natural beauty of the grain. External doors must be thoroughly treated and protected before being hung. We sell ideal finishing products. |
Aged Doors:
For customers requiring a darker oak and more period look we offer an excellent ageing process known as fuming. Colours produced by this process vary according to the natural tannins in the oak. Fumed doors look best after finishing with oil. Doors are supplied fumed and oiled, ready for you to hang. |

Reclaimed Pine
About the Timber
The reclaimed pine used to make our doors has been planked from antique beams and joists which have come from demolished Victorian buildings such as schools, churches and dwellings. All timber used is in excess of 100 years old. |
Reclaimed timber has more character than new wood. Many boards contain small scars made by nails and bolts, shakes may also occur. These features are retained and are what give the doors their character. |
Because our reclaimed pine is newly machined it will appear lighter in colour than you might expect antique pine to be. The wood will darken naturally with the effect of light quite quickly. |
About the Finish
Supplied sanded then you can apply you choice of oil, paint or exterior grade varnish to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the grain. Doors must be thoroughly treated and protected before being hung. We sell ideal finishing products. |
